We’re Better Off With Europe

It is easy to be negative about the draft Brexit deal.  So here’s some positive thoughts about the UK remaining in the EU, both financial and social, by being "Better Off With Europe":

WE’RE #BetterOffWithEurope
  • Than with the USA
  • Than crashing out of the EU with no collaborations or trade deal defined
  • Than the Brexit ‘deal’ that loses sovereignty and also leaves our future undefined

THE ECONOMY

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • For a stronger economy
  • For more jobs - there is no ‘Jobs first’ Brexit available
  • For more money for the NHS and public services from employee taxation and VAT

FREEDOM FOR BRITS IN EU27

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • For the opportunity to travel, live, work and retire anywhere in EU27. That would be lost, by reciprocation, if UK stops European people from doing that in the UK
  • For some 1.5 million Brits already in EU27
  • For us still in the UK, plus future generations

COLLABORATIONS

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • For all the collaborations that are better by clubbing together.
  • Aviation, medicines and security to name but three.
  • Dealing with trans-national issues such as the environment and the dominance of multi-national companies

TRADE IN GOODS WITH EU

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • For frictionless trade in goods
  • For the perishable food on which we rely
  • For just-in-time supply chains, on which our manufacturing industry relies

PUBLIC SERVICES

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • Because the nation’s finances which fund the NHS and public services relies on jobs in the UK for income tax, corporation tax and VAT
  • City jobs are already moving to Dublin, Frankfurt and Paris.
  • Other businesses, the jobs and tax revenues are already moving to EU27

EU27 CITIZENS IN THE UK

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • Because we need Europeans to help staff our NHS
  • We need them to help harvest our food
  • We need them to help staff many other businesses, from coffee shops to hi-tech
  • Not just jobs over £30k, as in the draft deal

EXPORTING SERVICES TO EU

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • Because we export services to EU27 and that requires freedom of movement.
  • Many products are sold with services, so exports of those proucts are affected too.
  • Total exports down, imports of goods little changed under the ‘deal’. Crisis!

INWARD INVESTMENT

We’re #BetterOffWithEurope
  • Because the UK in the EU can continue to be the gateway to the largest trading bloc in the world
  • For US, Japanese and any other businesses thinking of investing in Europe
  • For those who already have to be able to trust the UK for further investment.  That's important!
